𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Tefnut, the ancient Egyptian goddess of water, was one of the most important deities in Old Egypt. One of the first goddesses to be created according to Egyptian religion, Tefnut was not only the goddess of water but of rain and mainly the goddess of moisture. However, Tefnut should not be confused with Nun, the Egyptian god of the primordial sea or ocean, who was considered responsible for the annual flooding of the Nile River.
Tefnut is an important figure within ancient Egyptian religion because she is part of the Heliopolitan creation myth and is responsible for the birth of many gods and goddesses associated with Heliopolitan theology. Tefnut is commonly depicted in art alongside her twin brother and husband Shu, the god of air, wind, and peace. Together, Shu and Tefnut gave birth to several other gods and goddesses including Geb and Nut, the god of earth and goddess of the sky, respectively. These deities and the story of their creation are the roots of Ancient Egyptian religion and culture.
