According to the myth of Isis and Osiris, Nebet-hot was the sister of Osiris and Isis, and the three of them were the children of Geb, the god of the earth, and Nut, the goddess of the sky.

In the famous Pyramid Texts, Nephthys was also mentioned as a “goddess of the south.”

Nephthys was closely associated with mourning and protection of the dead, often depicted alongside her sister Isis as one of the two “kite” goddesses who mourned Osiris and guarded the deceased.

She was believed to assist in the embalming process and to protect the sarcophagus and canopic jars during burial rites, offering comfort and guidance to souls as they journeyed into the afterlife.
