History:

Queen Nefertiti was an ancient Egyptian queen who lived during the 14th century BCE.

She is best known for her exceptional beauty and her role as the chief consort of Pharaoh Akhenaten. Nefertiti’s name means “the beautiful one has come.”

Nefertiti’s exact origins and parentage are not well-established, but it is believed that she was born in the city of Akhmim in Upper Egypt.

She married Akhenaten, who ascended to the throne around 1353 BCE. During their reign, they initiated a religious and cultural revolution by introducing Atenism, a monotheistic worship of the sun god Aten. This departure from traditional polytheistic worship was a significant departure from the norm at the time.

Nefertiti played a prominent role in the religious and political reforms of her husband’s reign.

She is often depicted in artwork alongside Akhenaten, participating in religious rituals and even shown with equal status. She and Akhenaten had six known daughters, including the famous Tutankhamun, who would later become Pharaoh.

This Nefertiti Head Statue is inspired by her iconic image, immortalized in numerous statues and busts, showcasing her distinctive beauty.

The most famous of these is the bust of Nefertiti, discovered in 1912 by German archaeologist Ludwig Borchardt. The bust is now housed in the Neues Museum in Berlin and is considered one of the most recognizable and celebrated works of ancient Egyptian art.

Despite her prominence during Akhenaten’s reign, the details of Nefertiti’s life after her husband’s death remain uncertain.

Some theories suggest that she may have ruled as a co-regent or even independently as Neferneferuaten, but the evidence is inconclusive. Her ultimate fate and the location of her tomb are still subjects of speculation and ongoing archaeological research.
